I am an assistant professor of Statistics in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. This blog is my academic blog on broader mathematics, including pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, biostatistics and machine learning. I hope we can commucate any mathematical problems here. Thanks.
Here is my homepage.
Organized Statistics Student Seminar
- During 2011-2012 academic year, I organized a statistics student seminar in our department.
- During 2012-2013 academic year, I organized a statistics student seminar on Graphical Model.
- 2013 Fall Semester, SSS for Paper Reading.
Teaching
- 2012 Summer Semester, I taught Intro-Stats (STT200).
- 2013 Summer Semester, I am teaching Intro Prob & Stat for Business (STT315).
Publications
- Wang H., T. He, C. Wu, P.S. Zhong and Y.H. Cui*. (2013) A powerful statistical method identifies novel loci associated with diastolic blood pressure triggered by nonlinear GxE interaction. BMC Proceedings (accepted).

Important Problems in Statistics
- The Biggest Unsolved Problem: Larry Wasserman is calling for call for the biggest unsolved problems in statistics and machine learning, which is really important for raising “the profile of the field”. As the Hilbert’s Problems in Mathematics, they really help to develop the mathematics and create new mathematical branches.
- Problems Worth Solving: Cosma Rohilla Shalizi‘s response to the above calling, raising a bunch of interesting questions.
- Motivating statistical projects: Jeff Leek‘s response to this question.
- Michael Jordan has a short article called What are the Open Problems in Bayesian Statistics?, in which he polled a bunch of statisticians for their views on the open problems in statistics.
Statistical Meetings
- Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM)
- Eastern North American Region (ENAR)
- International Chinese Statistical Association (ICSA)
- Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS)
